About Our Juneau Bed and Breakfast Inn

In 1906, gold rush pioneer John Olds built one of the grandest homes in all of Juneau, high on the hillside, over looking the town and its bustling waterfront. Painstakingly restored over a four year period to its original grandeur, the Inn now blends turn of the century elegance with all the contemporary comforts of home. Furnished in period antiques and fine reproductions, your senses are reminded of an earlier time and the Inn’s place in history and the town’s rush for gold.

The Inn is our home too, and one of the fun things in life is to share it with our guests. Guests repeatedly confide in us how much more their stay was enhanced because we lived in the house. Whether preparing breakfast, or scheduling tours, fixing wedding dresses, or repairing eye glasses, we are always around to offer conversation, help and recommendations. On those hot and sunny afternoons, we often congregate on one of the decks, sharing local refreshments, playing dominos, eating snacks and telling old fish stories. In season we might ask guests to help shell crab for the next day’s breakfast, so you could be put to work!

The outside garden area is the perfect place to read a book in the sun or catch a nap in a hammock. Our landscaping contains some of the original Olds family plantings that we have preserved along with the Inn. There is also a large covered outdoor hot tub for guests use after a long day of adventures or hiking through the rain forest.  The Inn also provides wireless internet throughout our property.

“Gold rush elegance and a lip-licking heritage breakfast menu have made Alaska’s Capital Inn a widely-praised guidebook spotlight throughout the world.”
